A planter is fundamentally a vessel for containing nature. It houses something living, breathing and organic, in contrast to our otherwise static, inorganic dwellings. We are told of the physical and mental health benefits of having plants in a home. Indeed, plants in my midst produces a sense of peace and calm. That connection to the natural, to nature, is a reminder of from what and where we came and that we – ourselves and the natural world – should not be separated. It’s this aspect that for me makes plants, and therefore a planter, an essential part of home. To be in and around nature is to be home.
